Figalt Tutorial: Navigating Quickly in a Massive Canvas
When your canvas is packed with hundreds of layers, the biggest headache isn't just seeing the details—it's finding them. You select a tiny element in the layers panel, but have no idea where it is on the massive canvas. If you are a long-time Figma user, this "getting lost" experience is probably all too familiar. This tutorial covers Figalt’s Focus Selection and Reset View controls to help you find layers and switch canvas views quickly.
Local Focus: Instantly Find Your Layers
Select the layer(s) you want to inspect in the left layers panel (multi-selection is supported), then press ⇧2(or⇧F), or click the Focus Selection () icon on the top toolbar:
- First Click: The camera zooms in so the selected layer fills the screen.
- Second Click: The camera returns to 100% scale and centers the selected layer on screen.
If no layers are selected, the same shortcut automatically uses all layers as the focus target, so you do not need to select them all first. The first press fits all layers on screen; the second centers all layers at 100% scale.
In Figma these two are separate shortcuts — "Zoom to fit" and "Zoom to selection"; Figalt combines them into two presses of a single key.
Global Overview and 100% Scale
If you want to see your entire artwork at a glance or check its actual pixel size, use the Reset View () button (or press ⇧1):
- First Click: The canvas smoothly returns to exactly 100% scale, letting you check the actual size.
- Second Click: The camera zooms out to fit everything in your document perfectly within the window, giving you a bird's-eye view.
With these two features, you can navigate fluidly between a global overview and microscopic details. Give it a try on the canvas now!
